Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today handed over appointment letters to 1,746 youth recruited in Punjab Police, in another historic step in the state government’s drive to provide merit-based employment and strengthen the police force. He said that in the last four and a half years, 13,092 soldiers have been inducted into the police force, while the recruitment process of 3,298 more constables is going on. Along with this, on the basis of ‘without bribe, without recommendation’, till now 70,840 youth have been given government jobs on the basis of merit.

Along with the expansion of the police force, the Punjab Government has appointed Inspectors, S.I. And A.S.I. Approval has also been given to fill 1,600 new district-cadre posts through departmental promotion. The move clarifies the government’s intention to strengthen the force while maintaining Punjab’s hard-earned peace and order and deal with unrest, menace of terrorism and road safety challenges.

Sharing highlights of the occasion, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann wrote on Twitter: “Handed over appointment letters to 1,746 young boys and girls joining the Punjab Police at the PAP Ground in Jalandhar today. These youth have been recruited ‘without bribe, without recommendation’, on the basis of pure merit… In the last almost two and a half years, our government has given more than 70,840 jobs, which is a historic achievement. Addressing the gathering during the passing out parade of 1,746 newly recruited constables at the ground, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann congratulated the new recruits on becoming an integral part of the Punjab Police family and called upon them to serve the people with dedication, professionalism and missionary spirit. He said that Punjab is proud of paying the highest salaries to its employees, who are the backbone of the state administration. He said, “If the Central Government or any other state government gives a salary of Rs 36,000 to any of its employees then the Punjab Government gives a salary of Rs 50,000 to its employee. It is a matter of great pride and satisfaction that the State Government gives the highest salaries to its employees, who are the backbone of the State Government.”

The Chief Minister said that the newly recruited youth are joining the government family at a time when the state government is creating employment opportunities across Punjab. He said that the government has so far given jobs to 70,840 youth on the basis of pure merit, in which the entire selection process is completely transparent, free from corruption and recommendation. He said, “Many youth have successfully secured government jobs in various departments on the basis of their ability, which shows the credibility of our recruitment process. Our government has been successful in creating employment opportunities for the youth in every village, town and city of Punjab.”

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Punjab Police has become stronger with the latest recruitment. He said that during the last four and a half years, 13,092 youth have been recruited in various ranks of the force, while the recruitment process of 3,298 more constables is going on. He said, “From now on you have become an integral part of the government family. Together, we will leave no stone unturned in our common mission to restore the glory of a colorful and prosperous Punjab. This is neither the first such achievement nor will it be the last.”

The Chief Minister mentioned that children from ordinary families are proving that with dedication, perseverance and able guidance, they can achieve even the most challenging goals. He said, “You have shown that children from ordinary families can achieve every goal with dedication, dedication and perseverance. I hope that you will continue to set new records in the coming years and bring glory to Punjab.”

The Chief Minister said that Punjab Police has a separate responsibility. He said, “Everyone knows that Punjab Police is not just a state police, but it is the country’s police, which guards the 532 km long border with the enemy neighbour.” He said that Punjab Police has always fulfilled its responsibility of protecting the unity and integrity of the country and maintaining peace and order in Punjab with dedication.

The Chief Minister said that Punjab has suffered the scourge in the form of drugs, but the State Government has launched the ‘War on Drugs’ to deal decisively with this scourge. He said, “Punjab had to go through the crisis and pain of the stigma of drug abuse, but now we are fighting against drug terrorism. In the last nearly 500 days, more than 70,000 drug smugglers have been sent behind the bars. The properties of drug traffickers involved in this crime against humanity are being confiscated and demolished.”

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Punjab Police has broken the back of drugs with the active cooperation of the people and every possible effort is being made to free Punjab from this leprosy. Calling upon the newly recruited police personnel to play an active role in eradicating drugs, the Chief Minister said, “Punjab is fighting the country’s war against drugs and Punjab Police has always acted as a shield to stop the supply of drugs. Now is the time when you should maintain the glorious tradition of Punjab Police and work with full commitment to root out the menace of drugs from the state.”

The Chief Minister said that being a border state, Punjab is constantly facing conspiracies of enemy forces to disturb its hard-won peace. He said, “Many enemy elements of the state have been hatching nefarious conspiracies to disturb the peace of Punjab, but Punjab Police has always foiled such attempts.” He further said that the police force should continuously upgrade itself as per the modern needs in the field of investigation, science and technology.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed hope that Punjab Police will continue its glorious legacy of serving the people with full professional commitment and the newly recruited personnel will follow the high ideals set by their forefathers. Congratulating the newly recruited police personnel, the Chief Minister said that joining the Punjab Police is an important opportunity and inspired them to perform their duties with utmost dedication, hard work and commitment. He said, “You should play an active role in reducing the suffering of the common people and providing them justice. Your first duty should be the welfare of the people so that every section of the society can get the benefit of your service.”

The Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to upgrading the police force on a scientific basis to combat criminals. He said that from the year 2022 till now, more than 15,000 appointment letters have been issued to strengthen and modernize the police force, while new and modern vehicles have also been provided to the soldiers to perform their duties smoothly.

He also informed that the government has approved 1,600 new posts of district cadre in Punjab Police, which include 150 inspectors, 450 sub-inspectors and 1,000 assistant sub-inspectors. These posts will be filled through departmental promotion so that serving police personnel can get opportunities to advance in their career. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “For the first time, police officers are being promoted as per their qualifications and choice. We are committed to strengthening the force so that our police personnel can perform their duties more effectively.”

Highlighting the government’s road-safety measures, the Chief Minister said Punjab has launched the country’s first dedicated ‘Road Safety Force’ to enhance safety on state and national highways and save precious lives. He said that specially trained soldiers including girls have been recruited for this force and they have been equipped with modern vehicles. This force has been deployed on about 4,200 kilometers of accident-prone highways. According to the government report, due to the formation of this force, deaths in road accidents have reduced by 52.87 percent. He said, “SSF to ensure better safety on highways and save precious lives. This is the first initiative of its kind in the country. These young soldiers are working as the backbone of this force and are striving to make our roads safe.”

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this force is also working to stop those who violate traffic rules. He further informed that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had also praised this initiative of the state government in the Parliament. Addressing the newly recruited youth he said, “Now you have become an integral part of the government. Serve people in a missionary spirit and use your pen and your position to help the needy and backward sections of the society.” On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha, D.G.P. Gaurav Yadav and other celebrities were also present.
