Carlos Baleba’s first comments as a Manchester United player will be hugely encouraging for the Old Trafford faithful.

The Cameroon midfielder’s transfer from Brighton and Hove Albion was officially confirmed on Tuesday evening, bringing United’s much-needed midfield rebuild to a close.

Speaking after the move, Baleba said: “Excited to be joining this club. It’s a dream to be able to play for Manchester United.

“I will give my all for the team, and I can’t wait to get out there and show everybody what we can achieve together.

“#AreYouABaleba?”

Baleba had been waiting since last year to complete a move to the 20-time champions, with United first making their interest clear in the closing stages of the summer 2025 window.

Brighton, however, refused to sanction an exit and made it known that he was not available throughout the whole of the 2025/2026 campaign.

While his form dipped over the course of the season — with manager Fabian Hurzeler pointing to United’s approach as one possible reason — INEOS remained determined to bring in the young midfielder this time.

United stepped up their pursuit just over a week ago, and it was not long before a £70 million package was agreed, with the club paying £65m up front.

Fabrizio Romano had revealed earlier in the window that Baleba was actively pushing to complete what he viewed as his dream move, so he will be delighted that the deal is now done.

He will, however, have to wait a little longer for his debut. The 22-year-old picked up an ankle ligament injury in pre-season, although it is not expected to keep him out for the long term.

In the closing days before the September 1 deadline, supporters will now be hoping the club bring in a left-back to provide cover for the injury-prone Luke Shaw.
