LOS ANGELES: R&B singer Kehlani has cancelled two upcoming shows after falling ill and being treated at a hospital, saying she was in “so much pain” and unable to swallow.

The 31-year-old singer announced the cancellations Wednesday on Instagram, saying she would not be medically cleared to perform in Camden, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.

“After two off days feeling completely normal, I’ve been up all night unable to swallow & in so much pain,” the “Folded” singer wrote. “I just left the hospital & am not cleared to sing for the next two shows. I’m so sorry.”

“Camden & DC. My team is working on a solution,” she added. “Breaks my heart to have to ever do this. I do everything I’m supposed to to ensure my health stays up to par & it still isn’t guaranteed. We will pick back up in Virginia.”

Kehlani did not disclose the nature of the illness.

The singer is currently on her 41-stop self-titled world tour, which began August 6. Her next scheduled performance is set for Saturday, August 29, at the Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront in Richmond, Virginia.

The cancellations come shortly after Kehlani spoke publicly about her physical and mental health in a Billboard cover story published August 20.

The Grammy-nominated singer discussed how she manages her bipolar disorder diagnosis and maintains balance through medication, exercise, yoga, walks and spending time outdoors.

“I take medicine,” she told Billboard. “I have to go to the gym; it’s not an option. I have to do yoga, take walks.”

“I have to spend time in nature: sit in the park or go wiggle my toes in somebody’s grass,” she added. “I have to build a relationship with God. I have to pray.”

Kehlani has not indicated how long her recovery will take or whether the latest health issue will affect additional dates on the tour.

The singer is scheduled to continue the North American leg of her tour following the postponed performances, with fans awaiting further information from her team about the rescheduled shows.
