Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, adding further strength to their squad during an exceptionally busy summer transfer window. The Egypt international has joined the North London club on an initial loan deal, with a mandatory obligation to make the move permanent for £60m next year.

Marmoush completes move to North London

Tottenham have officially finalised the arrival of Manchester City attacker Marmoush on a season-long loan agreement that carries a compulsory £60m purchase clause for next summer. The 27-year-old Egypt international heads to North London only a few days after his former City team-mate Savio also moved there in a £75m transfer.

The forward spoke of his delight at joining the club, pointing to Spurs' global stature and the role played by the head coach in shaping his decision. “Tottenham Hotspur is one of the biggest clubs in England, if not the world, and the project was very attractive to me. I've spoken with the head coach [Roberto de Zerbi], I loved what he had to say and I'm sure our passion for the game will go very well together,” said Marmoush.

Difficulties getting starts at the Etihad

Although he arrived at Manchester City amid major expectations after his £59 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025, Marmoush struggled to secure regular minutes because of the presence of Erling Haaland. Even though he scored 16 goals in 62 appearances across all competitions for the Citizens, his Premier League involvement was often restricted to brief substitute appearances.

Marmoush's final outings for City appeared to indicate that he had slipped further down the order at the Etihad Stadium. He was introduced only as a second-half substitute in City's 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield, and he stayed on the bench throughout last Sunday's 2-1 win over Bournemouth as an unused substitute.

De Zerbi praises latest attacking signing

Spurs manager Roberto de Zerbi was highly complimentary about his new addition, saying the Egyptian has the exact qualities needed to thrive in his high-intensity system. “Omar is exactly the kind of player we want at this club - ambitious, hungry and determined to make a difference,” De Zerbi said.

Continuing his assessment, De Zerbi added: “He has incredible attacking quality but what I also love is his desire to improve and to win. He brings pace, intelligence and a real threat in front of goal, and I believe he can take our attacking play to another level.”

Tottenham continue record spending spree

Marmoush's arrival takes Tottenham's overall spending in this summer transfer window beyond £312m, underlining a huge show of faith in De Zerbi. The club have been extremely active, signing players such as Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, and Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. Those major additions have also been backed up by the free-transfer arrivals of Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka to add depth to the squad.
