The Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) and Netflix have announced scholarships for 100 students. Students enrolled in six professional programs will receive financial aid covering up to 80 percent of the costs. Students and working professionals from across the country can avail themselves of this scholarship. This initiative aims to foster creative talent in India and prepare industry-ready professionals for the AVGC-XR sector—encompassing animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality.

Scholarship Opportunities Across 6 Programs

The scholarship announced by IICT and Netflix covers two one-year diploma programs and four six-month certificate programs. These include the Diploma in Interactive Comics & Sequential Arts, Diploma in Visual Effects Mastery, Certificate in Virtual Art Department Content Creation, Certificate in Media Tech Workflow, Certificate in Art of Character Animation, and Certificate in E-sports & Gaming Management. Students and working professionals nationwide are eligible to apply for scholarships for all these programs.

Financial Support of Up to 80% for 100 Students

A total of 100 students will receive financial assistance under this initiative, with support covering up to 80 percent of the costs. The objective is to extend specialized professional training to more students and prepare them to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

Curriculum Developed with Netflix’s Input

The curricula for IICT’s Visual Effects Mastery and Media Tech Workflow programs have been designed with modern industry workflows and global standards in mind. Netflix has also provided input for this initiative. Through this collaboration, the focus is on understanding professional workflows and industry-standard practices, rather than limiting students to purely academic studies.

Initiative launched following meeting between PM and Netflix CEO

This announcement follows a meeting held on August 5 between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos. During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted India’s rich storytelling tradition and the country’s vast pool of creative talent. Subsequently, the ‘Netflix India Storytelling Initiative’ was launched. Its objective is to equip emerging creative talent in India with industry-relevant skills within the AVGC sector. This sector is viewed as a vital component of India’s ‘Orange Economy’.

What is IICT?

The Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) serves as India’s National Centre of Excellence for the AVGC-XR sector (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality). It was established by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra, FICCI, and CII. Currently, IICT operates from the NFDC complex on Pedder Road, Mumbai. The institute’s permanent 10-acre campus is being constructed at Film City, Goregaon.
