A new history is going to be created in the railway infrastructure sector of Gujarat and the country. The country’s first LNG and diesel based ‘dual fuel’ demo train will be run from Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati station. There is a strong possibility that this eco-friendly train will be launched on September 4 by the hand of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Equipped with modern technology, this country’s first LNG demo train is equipped with a powerful engine of 1400 horse power. The biggest feature of this train is its dual fuel system. Due to this system, up to 40 percent of the engines running the train will use LNG, while the rest will use diesel. This revolutionary experiment has been started by the Indian Railways with the aim of preserving the environment and reducing fuel costs.
The railways will benefit from using LNG in two ways. On one hand huge reduction in consumption of conventional diesel will save crores of rupees in annual fuel cost, on the other hand pollution will also be reduced due to reduction in carbon emissions. This train is being considered as an important step of Indian Railways towards green energy.
The official announcement of the specific route of this local intercity train starting from Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati station will be made by the railway system in the coming days. With the launch of this train, local passengers will get a new experience of comfortable, fast and eco-friendly travel. After the success of this experiment starting from Sabarmati, the Railway Board plans to start such dual fuel trains in other railway zones of the country as well.
