Technology Desk: Instagram has launched a new feature First Draft for creators making reels. With the help of this feature, the initial work of video editing will become much easier. Currently it is being rolled out for select iPhone users.

Will automatically remove empty parts from the video

The specialty of First Draft is that it can identify long pauses, silences and unwanted parts present in the video. It then removes these parts and creates an initial edit of the video. With this, creators will not have to start editing videos on their own. They will get a pre-made rough edit which they can change as per their needs.

Complete freedom to make changes in edit

According to Instagram, all changes made from First Draft will be reversible. That is, if removing any part does not seem right then it can be brought back. Users can reorder clips, delete parts, or make custom edits. If desired, the video can also be prepared afresh by removing the entire edit.

Useful for many types of videos

The company says that First Draft can work with different types of videos. This includes content such as talking-head videos, multi-clip montages and day-in-the-life. Its main objective is to reduce the time creators spend in the initial stages of video editing.

How to use First Draft on iPhone

To use First Draft, open Instagram on iPhone and go to the Reels gallery. After this select one or more video clips. After tapping the First Draft button that appears at the bottom of the screen, Instagram will create an initial edit of the video.

After this the user can view the edit and go to the full video editor to make changes as per the need. If you like, the video can also be posted directly as a reel. Apart from this, First Draft can be used even after recording video from Instagram camera.

Currently rolled out for iOS users

Instagram has currently started rolling out the First Draft feature on the iOS app. This facility is being made available to all users in a phased manner instead of all at once. Information about its expansion may be revealed in the coming time.
