Liverpool have received a major boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola. PSG have reportedly reduced their asking price, giving Liverpool fresh belief that an agreement can be completed before the transfer window closes. Talks are currently moving quickly as the deadline nears for both clubs.

Liverpool step up push for Barcola transfer

After difficult early negotiations, Liverpool are now making significant headway in their bid to sign Barcola. According to The Times, Paris Saint-Germain have lowered their original valuation from €170 million to around £115m after fresh contact earlier this week.

PSG had previously stayed firm on their demands, but trimming roughly £30m off the price is being seen as a major breakthrough. Liverpool switched their full focus to Barcola after being unable to complete a deal for Yan Diomande. With less than a week left to finish their summer transfer business, Liverpool officials are pushing hard to get the deal over the line before Tuesday's deadline.

Potential near-record transfer for Liverpool

If the move goes through, Barcola would become the second-most expensive signing in Liverpool's history. The £115m fee would be just below the £125m paid to Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer.

Although the overall package for Florian Wirtz was valued at £116m, Liverpool will pay only £16m of that to Bayer Leverkusen if Wirtz helps the club win the Premier League and the Champions League. Club officials must now decide whether Barcola is worth such a huge outlay.

However, personal terms are not expected to be a problem, with provisional details of a long-term contract already in place and Barcola reportedly making a move to Liverpool his priority.

Search for a right winger goes on

Alongside the talks for Barcola, Liverpool are also actively scanning the market to bring in a right winger before the 11 pm deadline on September 1. Sporting director Richard Hughes is assessing several options after the move for Diomande collapsed.

Liverpool looked at Ibrahim Mbaye and made two bids for Yankuba Minteh, but Brighton turned down both offers while asking for £80m. Hughes also made enquiries about Endrick and Ismaila Sarr, but Real Madrid and Crystal Palace would not sanction a sale.

In addition, Said El Mala and Matias Fernandez-Pardo have drawn interest, though it is still unclear whether Liverpool have continued to pursue either player since signing Victor Munoz in June.

What next for Liverpool?

The expectation is that Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain will reach a full agreement for Barcola in the next few days. Hughes now has to move decisively to complete the paperwork and medical checks before the transfer window closes. If Liverpool are able to sign Barcola and also bring in another right winger, it would represent a transformative summer for the club.
