Tezzbuzz Desk: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has targeted the BJP government at the Center regarding the rising inflation in the country. Citing the rising prices of daily essential items, Kharge accused the government of diverting attention from the problems of the people.
Kharge said that there is a BJP government in the country for the last 12 years, but inflation continues to be a big challenge for the common people. He said that sometimes the rising prices of pulses, sometimes vegetables, sometimes oil, sugar and now onion are directly affecting the household budget of the people.
Kharge alleged that when the public raises questions about inflation and prices of essential commodities, the government resorts to other statements and political stunts to divert attention from the issue. He said that Congress will continue to question the government on the issue of inflation.
Prices of everyday items increased
Comparing the prices of May 2013 and August 2026, Kharge claimed that there has been a significant increase in the prices of many essential food items.
According to him, in May 2013 the price of tomato was around Rs 17.50 per kg, which has now reached Rs 120. That means an increase of about 585 percent has been claimed in its price.
Similarly, the price of flour has increased from Rs 21 to around Rs 69 per kg. The price of onion has also been claimed to have increased from Rs 23 to Rs 73 per kg. The price of mustard oil has been increased from Rs 102 to Rs 263.
Increase in the prices of pulses has also been mentioned. According to Kharge, the average price of pulses like tur, urad and gram has increased from around Rs 140 to Rs 153.
Demand for relief from government on inflation
Kharge said that due to the cost of essential commodities like milk, sugar, oil and pulses, the kitchen of common families is most affected. He says that mere claims and statements will not solve public problems, but there is a need to take concrete steps on inflation.
The Congress President demanded the government to provide relief to the common people from the rising prices and said that people should get the goods of daily needs at reasonable prices.
