Newcastle United’s summer transfer plans have been impacted by Manchester City.

According to reports, the Manchester side have inadvertently complicated the Magpies’ attempt to sign Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo.

Newcastle had been in talks with the Ligue 1 club over a transfer fee for the Belgium international attacker, but after the two sides failed to reach an agreement, the club may now look at other options.

The major deal involving Manchester City and Lille, under which Ayyoub Bouaddi is set to join Enzo Maresca’s side, has changed the dynamics of the negotiations.

Manchester City’s £81 million signing of the teenage midfielder has handed Lille a huge financial boost, dramatically improving the French club’s balance sheet.

Before City stepped in, Lille were, like a large part of French football, working under pressure to keep their finances in order.

That situation would have made it possible for Newcastle to put together a deal for Fernandez-Pardo, but that bargaining advantage has now disappeared.

With their finances strengthened by the Bouaddi transfer, Lille are no longer under any need to sell for monetary reasons. As a result, the French club have been able to take a firm stance in discussions, demanding a fee well beyond what Newcastle are prepared to pay.

As Newcastle are unwilling to spend above their valuation in an inflated market, the Magpies have now hit an impasse in negotiations, according to reports in Europe.

This latest setback comes at a time when Newcastle and Manchester City are still involved in separate transfer business.

Newcastle are close to completing a reported £50 million deal for Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez, a move that would strengthen Matthias Jaissle’s options in central midfield.
