Nothing OS 5.0 launched : Nothing has released the new Nothing OS 5.0 for its smartphones. The company’s new user interface is based on Android 17 and has more than 80 changes. The new update includes design changes, new personalization options, improved performance and AI tools. The company has also announced the launch of the Nothing OS 5.0 open beta program. Nothing Phone (3) will be the first to receive the beta update.
When will which phones get the update?
The Nothing Phone (3) will begin receiving the Nothing OS 5.0 open beta on August 26 at 3:30 p.m., with a stable update scheduled for mid-October. The Phone (4a) Pro will then receive a beta in early September. The Phone (4a), Phone (3a) Pro and Phone (3a) will receive the beta update in late September, with the stable update for all four models arriving in early November. The Phone 2a and Phone 2a Plus will receive the beta update in mid-October and the stable update in mid-November.
New design and personalization features
Eligible smartphones running Nothing OS 5.0 will be upgraded to Android 17. Icons for apps, settings, camera, gallery and status bar have been redesigned. Added translucent details to widgets and search bar, giving the screen a more immersive look. A new adaptive color system can add color to app icons and widgets by borrowing shades from the home screen wallpaper. The new OS also includes a new Gypsies typeface, system text size changes, and two new lock screen clock faces: Gooey and Micrographics.
Performance and AI features
The new update allows users to select and reposition multiple apps and widgets on the home screen. Two new widgets, Collector and Away Time, have also been added. A dedicated app and Glyph Timer widget have been added to the Glyph interface. Nothing OS 5.0, based on Android 17, improves touch response, background app retention and system resource management, the company claims. Essential voices have been sped up and transcription improved. Essential Space will also include a dedicated app for the Smart Collections feature and Essential Apps Builder.
Rollout to other devices
The Nothing Phone (4B) is scheduled to receive a beta version of Nothing OS 5.0 in mid-December and a stable update in mid-January. Nothing Phone (3A) Lite will receive a stable update in late December. Only the CMF Phone 2 Pro from the company’s sub-brand CMF is eligible for this update, and it will receive the stable update in mid-January. The company has released a phased rollout schedule for the beta and stable updates for various models.
