India bowling coach Morne Morkel has praised pacer Prasidh Krishna for overcoming outside criticism and developing into a “world-class bowler”, after the Karnataka quick delivered an impressive spell against Sri Lanka in the second Test in Colombo.

Prasidh claimed three wickets for 47 runs from a demanding 14-over spell on the third day, playing a key role in India’s efforts with the ball. Morkel was particularly impressed by the pacer’s ability to remain focused despite sustained scrutiny from the media and commentators.

Morkel said the spell reflected Prasidh’s character and his ability to deal with pressure.

The bowling coach pointed out that the pacer has faced considerable attention throughout his career but has increasingly learned to block out the noise and concentrate on his cricket.

Learning to ignore outside noise

According to Morkel, one of the biggest changes in Prasidh’s game has been his ability to stop worrying about external opinions.

India’s players operate under enormous scrutiny, with performances and even individual movements frequently analysed by millions of fans.

Morkel said Prasidh has learned to let go of those distractions and simply enjoy playing cricket.

The South African coach also highlighted the fast bowler’s work ethic and preparation. Prasidh, he said, spends considerable time studying opponents and preparing for matches, demonstrating the mindset of a student of the game.

“He is an extremely hard worker,” Morkel said, praising the amount of research and preparation the pacer puts into his cricket.

The bowling coach believes those qualities have helped Prasidh make significant progress and reach a level where he can contribute to India across formats.

Pace and bounce give India an edge

Morkel also explained why Prasidh is such a valuable option for India’s bowling attack.

The pacer possesses extra pace and bounce, qualities that allow the team to use him aggressively during particular phases of an innings.

That approach can occasionally carry the risk of conceding runs, but Morkel believes the potential rewards make the strategy worthwhile.

He recalled occasions, including India’s 2025 tour of England, when the team had deliberately asked Prasidh to perform difficult roles. The results did not always go his way, but the coaching staff continued to back him.

Morkel said the team’s role was to provide Prasidh with clarity and confidence, particularly after difficult spells.

The bowler has responded by improving another important aspect of his game — his ability to hit a fuller length consistently.
