Tezzbuzz Desk: The country's leading engineering and infrastructure company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has shown the strength of its global presence by winning big orders worth about Rs 40 thousand crore in just two weeks. The company has won significant orders for large hydrocarbon and energy projects in the Middle East as well as artificial intelligence infrastructure. Of these, orders worth about Rs 25 thousand crore have come from the Middle East, while a big order has been received in the field of AI infrastructure.
L&T has recently received a major order for three Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in the Middle East. The total storage capacity of these projects is 6 gigawatt-hours and their estimated cost is between Rs 5 thousand to Rs 10 thousand crore. The company will also prepare the necessary infrastructure for these projects including battery storage system, sub-station and underground cables. Each project will have a storage capacity of four hours.
Battery energy storage systems will be used to store excess electricity during times of low demand and supply it during times of high demand. This will help in improving the stability of the power grid and promoting the use of renewable energy. Liquid cooling technology will also be used in the projects. Earlier, L&T had won an ultra-mega contract for a gas compression project for a large client in the Gulf region. The company places orders worth more than Rs 15 thousand crore in the ultra-mega category. This contract has been awarded to L&T's subsidiary L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore. Under this, the company will do engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work of the gas compression plant for the onshore installation to process sour gas.
The project will include features such as gas inlet facilities, gas compression systems, condensate and produced-water handling systems and propane refrigeration systems. Apart from this, L&T's power transmission and distribution business will also build two 230 KV extra-high-voltage sub-stations for the power needs of the plant. On August 13, the company had given information about one of India's largest single-cluster AI infrastructure projects. Under this, 10 thousand NVIDIA B300 GPUs will be installed in the L&T Data Center campus in Chennai for Together AI. The value of this order is said to be between Rs 10 thousand to Rs 15 thousand crore.
This project is an important step in L&T's AI infrastructure business. The company plans to create the infrastructure required for large-scale AI training, inference and fine-tuning. The Chennai campus is being developed as a gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure site. These consecutive large orders have strengthened L&T's order book. Additionally, the company's reach has expanded from the energy sector in the Middle East to India's rapidly growing AI infrastructure market. It also reflects the growing global competitiveness of the Indian engineering and construction sector.
