Gunners have finally secured a deal for a long-standing attacking target.

The club had tried to strike an agreement with Blackburn for the striker across the last few transfer windows, but had failed to do so on each previous attempt.

Tyjon completed a medical last week after the two clubs agreed a package worth an initial £1million, with a further £2m possible in add-ons.

The 18-year-old will initially link up with Arsenal's Under-21 side, though he is also expected to train with the first team at times.

There is a feeling that Tyjon could make appearances for Mikel Arteta's side at some point this season, although that is likely to depend on how far they go in the cup competitions.

Arsenal have made a significant effort to strengthen at academy level in recent transfer windows, and that work has stepped up further this summer.

Done deal: Arsenal have agreed the signing of Blackburn striker Igor Tyjon.

Elijah Upson arrived after leaving Tottenham, while Axel Donczew is poised to join from Cardiff.

Arsenal are also expected to complete the double signing of James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye from Manchester United.

Tyjon has been on Arsenal's radar for more than a year, with the club especially eager to improve their striker options in the academy.

He was a youth prospect at Rochdale before moving to Blackburn's academy in the summer of 2023.

Tyjon scored on his debut for the Under-21s as a 15-year-old and had been named on the first-team bench by the end of that season.

The teenager signed a two-year scholarship contract in 2024 and has since gone on to make three first-team appearances.

In 33 matches for the Under-21s, Tyjon scored 13 goals. He played mainly as the central striker in those games, but has also been deployed on the wing and as a No 10.

Both of Tyjon's parents are Polish and he represented Poland at Under-16 level, but he has since been capped by England and went to the Under-17 World Cup last season.

Blackburn were eager for Tyjon to sign a professional contract, but he made it clear that he had no intention of doing so.

The club instead extended his scholarship terms for a third year, with the previous deal having been due to expire this summer.

Arsenal stayed determined in their pursuit of Tyjon and had to raise their offer, having previously seen bids of around £1m turned down.

An agreement has now been reached and his arrival is expected to be officially announced this week.
