Technology Desk: While using a smartphone, you must have often heard that you should keep emptying the phone's RAM. For this reason, many people clear recent apps every once in a while. They think that this will increase the speed of the phone. But is it really necessary to free up RAM every time? The answer is- no.

The sole purpose of RAM is to run apps.

The function of the smartphone's RAM is to temporarily store important data of the apps and system. Both Android and iPhone use the available RAM to run the phone optimally. Therefore, if a large part of the phone's RAM is being used, it does not mean that your phone has become slow.

There is no benefit in closing the app again and again

If you repeatedly remove an app from Recent Apps and reopen it, the phone has to load the data of that app into RAM again. This process may place additional load on the processor and battery in some cases. So clearing Recent Apps every few minutes is not a necessary way to speed up the phone.

When is it beneficial to clear RAM or apps?

In some circumstances, closing the app or restarting the phone may help.

Any app is hanging or crashing repeatedly.
The phone has suddenly become very slow.
An app may be using excessive battery or RAM.
An app is running abnormally in the background.
There may be some kind of technical problem facing the phone.
In such a situation, closing the concerned app or restarting the phone can solve the problem.

Nowadays phones manage their own RAM

The operating system of most of today's smartphones manages RAM automatically. When needed, the system removes less-used apps from memory and makes RAM available for essential apps. Therefore, there is no need to get worried just by seeing that the phone's RAM is being used more. If your phone is running normally, apps are working fine and battery is also running normally, then there is no need to clear RAM again and again.
