Business Desk – Gold Silver Price Update Today: Gold and silver prices again fluctuated on Tuesday, August 25. According to India Bullion and Jewelers Association (IBJA), the price of 10 grams of 24 carat gold has increased by Rs 190 to Rs 1,62,000. At the same time, the price of silver has declined. One kg of silver has become cheaper by Rs 1,945 to Rs 2,43,000.

That means today there is a slight rise in the Gold Rate, while a decline has been seen in the Silver Price. These are IBJA rates, which do not include GST and jewelery making charges. Therefore, when buying jewelery from jewellers, you may end up paying more than this.

Gold will become costlier by Rs 29 thousand in 2026

A big rise in the price of gold has been seen in the year 2026. On December 31, 2025, 10 grams of gold was at Rs 1,33,000. Now it has increased to Rs 1,62,000. That means, so far this year, the price of gold has increased by about Rs 29 thousand.

Silver is also costlier than the beginning of the year. On December 31, 2025, the price of one kg silver was Rs 2,30,000, which is now Rs 2,43,000. That means silver has become costlier by about Rs 13 thousand.

However, this year, sharp fluctuations were also seen in both the metals. On January 29, 2026, gold had reached an all-time high of Rs 1,76,000 per 10 grams. On the same day, silver also touched a record level of Rs 3,86,000 per kg.

Where can gold and silver reach by December?

Regarding gold investment in the coming months, the market is keeping an eye on global conditions and purchases by central banks. According to Anindya Banerjee, Senior Vice President and Commodity Research Head, Kotak Securities, along with common investors, central banks around the world are also supporting gold. These also include RBI, which has been continuously purchasing gold to increase gold reserves.

He estimates that if difficult global conditions persist in the future, the rise in gold may continue. Looking at the current situation, gold can reach Rs 1.70 lakh per 10 grams by December. At the same time, if conditions remain favourable, silver may also rise and its price is expected to reach Rs 3 lakh per kg.

What is the difference between 24, 22 and 18 carat?

While buying gold, just looking at today's gold rate is not enough. Its price changes according to the purity of gold.

24 carat: It is considered to be the purest gold. It has about 99.9% purity. It is generally used for investment and Gold Bars or Coins.

22 carat: It contains about 91.6% gold. Other metals are added to it, which makes it stronger. It is mostly used in making jewellery.

18 carat: It contains about 75% gold. The remaining part is made up of other metals. It is also used in jewellery.

Therefore, while buying gold at the shop, first ask how many carats the jewel is and what is its rate per 10 grams.

Keep these 3 things in mind while buying jewellery.

  1. Must see BIS Hallmark

Always buy BIS Hallmarked Gold only. Hallmark gives information about the purity of gold. The alphanumeric number accompanying the hallmarking, such as AZ4524, provides information regarding the identity and purity of the gold.

  1. Cross Check Gold Rate

Before purchasing, definitely check the gold price of that day. Rates for 24, 22 and 18 carats can be cross checked from reliable sources like IBJA. After this compare the rates being charged from the jeweller.

  1. Talk about Making Charges

Making charges are also added to the price of jewellery. This is the fee charged by the jeweler for making the jewelery and is not the same at every shop. Therefore, ask for a complete breakup of Making Charges and Labor Cost before purchasing. These charges can also be negotiated for larger purchases. This can result in substantial savings in the final bill.
