Punjab: Assistance amount will reach women's accounts on Raksha Bandhan, more than 75 lakh registrations

Tezzbuzz Desk- Punjab government has announced to give a big gift to women on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the amount of honorarium will be directly transferred on August 28 to the bank accounts of eligible women who have recently registered under 'Matri-Putri Samman Yojana'.

According to the government, till now more than 75 lakh women have joined this scheme. So far, assistance amounting to Rs 2,274.42 crore has been sent to the accounts of the beneficiaries. At the same time, in the month of August, about 7 lakh new women have registered for the scheme, who will also be paid on August 28.

Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 1,000 is given every month to general category women above 18 years of age. Whereas for eligible Scheduled Caste women, this amount is fixed at Rs 1,500 per month.

The Punjab government has made a budget provision of Rs 9,300 crore in the current financial year for the scheme. The government claims that about 97 percent of the women of the state can come under the scope of this scheme.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that his government is working towards fulfilling its promises to free electricity, canal water, health, education and sports along with providing financial assistance to women.

More than 500 new sports grounds were also inaugurated in Punjab during the programme. The government says that through these sports facilities, emphasis is being laid on keeping the youth away from drugs and making Punjab strong again in the field of sports.
