New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a transformative force in India's digital payments ecosystem as the platform completed 10 years since its launch. He said UPI's massive scale and reach have become a matter of pride for every Indian.

Modi Highlights UPI's Impact Across India

Sharing his views on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi reflected on UPI's decade-long journey and asked citizens to share how digital payments have changed their daily lives.

He said the payment system has played a major role in making financial transactions faster, easier and more accessible for people across the country.

UPI has enabled instant money transfers between bank accounts through mobile applications, connecting more than 1.3 billion people with a simple digital payment solution.

From Metro Cities To Rural India, UPI Expands Reach

Over the past decade, UPI has moved beyond big cities and become a common payment method in small towns, villages and local markets. From shopping malls and businesses to small shopkeepers and street vendors, digital payments have become increasingly popular.

The growth of smartphones, internet connectivity and digital awareness has helped UPI become a key part of everyday transactions for millions of Indians.

UPI Becomes Pillar Of Digital Public Infrastructure

The government has repeatedly highlighted UPI as one of India's biggest achievements in digital public infrastructure. The platform has supported efforts to promote financial inclusion by bringing more people into formal banking systems.

Experts have also pointed out that UPI has changed the way individuals, businesses and merchants conduct transactions by reducing dependence on cash payments.

India's Digital Payment Revolution Continues

As UPI enters its second decade, the government continues to focus on expanding digital financial services and strengthening technology-based payment systems.

The platform's journey from a digital experiment to a nationwide payment network reflects India's growing digital economy and its push towards a more connected financial system.
