New Delhi. ICEYE, Finland's global space-based intelligence technology company, has announced to start its operations in India. This company is exploring the possibility of setting up a local manufacturing hub for manufacturing small satellites in the country. These satellites will be used in defence, surveillance and environmental monitoring.

ICEYE India will operate from New Delhi. This is part of the company's strategy to increase its presence in important defense and space markets like India. The company's satellite constellation is already being used in areas such as defence, intelligence, insurance and emergency management. The demand for the company's technology has also increased amid increasing geopolitical tensions around the world, including the Russia-Ukraine war.

What did the CEO of the company say?

Company CEO and co-founder Rafal Modrzewski said the company will develop real engineering and manufacturing capabilities in India. He said ICEYE is excited to work with the Government of India and local partners to strengthen the country's sovereign intelligence capabilities. ICEYE's priority will be to provide advanced intelligence solutions to Indian defense and intelligence customers. This will increase national security and strength. The company is exploring possibilities of collaboration in the Indian space and defense ecosystem.

This includes launch providers, electronics and component manufacturers and technology partners. The company's model of developing local industrial capacity matches the goal of a self-reliant India. It has the world's most advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite constellation. The company has more than 1,000 employees worldwide. This year the company's revenue has crossed approximately US$280 million (approximately Rs 2,680 crore).
