Many leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday extended good wishes and congratulations to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) on completion of ten years of operation. Prime Minister Modi wrote on social media platform X that UPI was launched a decade ago, which proved to be a major turning point in India’s digital payment journey. Its scope and reach is such that every Indian should be proud of it.

The Prime Minister appealed to people to share their UPI experience and how it impacted your life. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Twitter that the 10 years of UPI under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the story of a decade of transformational change. From a bold idea to becoming a digital payments success story, UPI has made transactions faster, easier, secure and accessible for every Indian. This is the strength of Digital India. Technology to empower, include and make life easier.

Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that UPI is the result of the vision of Prime Minister Modi, in which he was determined to take Digital India to every citizen. Today UPI has made digital payments easy, fast and accessible in India and has made the world realize the digital power of India.

Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, UPI has become a symbol of the ‘Digital India’ revolution, which has made digital payments in India easy, fast and seamless.

Unified Payment Interface is an instant payment system of India. It was launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on 11 April 2016 on a pilot basis with 21 member banks. It was then officially launched for the general public on 25 August 2016.
