Ranchi district administration has made it mandatory to take prior permission for organizing protests, gheraos, processions, rallies and public meetings in public places. According to the administration, for organizing such programs, the procedure prescribed by the Sub-Divisional Officer of Ranchi Sadar or Bundu will have to be followed.

The administration said that many times protests and rallies are organized without prior notice, due to which law and order, safety of common people and traffic system are affected. In view of this, the organizers will have to provide necessary information to the administration before the program.

Organizers of a procession or rally must provide information about the date of the event, start and end time, proposed route and number of potential participants. If necessary, the administration will also have to give details of the prominent people participating in the program.

The district administration clarified that peaceful sit-in and protest is the constitutional right of the citizens, but in its name, it is not appropriate to block public roads or affect the safety of common people and the traffic system. The programs will have to be organized in accordance with the law and instructions issued by the administration.

The administration has appealed to the students and common citizens that before participating in any demonstration or public program, get information about its legal status and permission from the administration from the organizers. Also, it has been asked not to take any such step on the basis of rumor or misleading information, which may lead to deterioration of law and order or cause trouble to the common people.

The administration said that the purpose of the system of prior permission is not to stop peaceful and democratic programs, but to ensure the safety of the protesters, traffic arrangements and convenience of the common people.

The district administration has appealed to political parties, social organizations, institutions and common citizens to follow the prescribed procedure before organizing public programs and to inform the administration on time.
