New Delhi. An estimated 8.7 crore youth in India aged 15 to 29 years are in the Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET) category, meaning they are neither studying, nor employed, nor receiving any training.

According to NITI Aayog, the Commission's report titled Reimagining Skilling for Developed India@2047 emphasizes the need for subsidized skill programs to make these youth self-reliant and skill them as per local demand. This estimate is based on data from the 78th round of the National Sample Survey conducted in the year 2021.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on X Post that Modi Government has completely ruined the entire path from education to employment for young India. He said that NITI Aayog estimates that 8.7 crore youth in the age group of 15 to 29 years are neither studying, nor in job or training. About 88 percent of these youth are engaged in household chores. Additionally, the unemployment rate among youth stands at 15.6 percent, and among young women it has reached a shocking 19.5 percent.

Among unemployed Indians aged 20 to 29 years, 67% are graduates, while the unemployment rate among graduate youth aged 15 to 25 years is about 40%. Families spend their savings, students take education loans to get degrees, only to find that there are no jobs.
What happened to the promise of 2 crore jobs every year?
According to that promise, there should have been 24 crore jobs in India in 12 years. Instead, lakhs of posts in government departments are lying vacant and secure jobs have been replaced by contract and part-time work. What is turning India's 'demographic dividend' into a 'demographic disaster'?
Expensive and inadequate education, paper leaks, recruitment delays, widening skills gap and loss of good jobs – all these have put the future of an entire generation at risk. Modi ji, you had promised that you will do what the previous governments could not do in 70 years.
You have proved that claim to be true: an education system that is expensive and under the influence of the RSS, exams that young people cannot trust, and degrees that do not lead to jobs.
