Manchester United were short of attacking edge in the wide areas during their 2-0 defeat to Hull City in their Premier League opener.
Even though United controlled possession with ease, they found it difficult to carve out a meaningful volume of chances against the newly promoted outfit.
Michael Carrick was forced to call upon Marcus Rashford in the second half after both Patrick Dorgu and Bryan Mbeumo offered little threat.
Amad had been among Manchester United’s most impressive performers in pre-season. However, he was not part of the travelling squad for the away match, with Michael Carrick confirming that the right winger had suffered a niggle in training.
It has now been reported, though, that the injury issue may be far more serious than first expected.
As per Sully, regarded as a reliable source on all matters related to United, Amad could be sidelined for up to six weeks after the initial scan results.
It is believed that United are still awaiting further test outcomes to gain a clearer picture of the problem, but “the early signs are not looking too positive.”
If that reported recovery period proves accurate, the Ivory Coast international would remain unavailable until the end of September.
That would mean Amad will not be in contention again until after the first international break, which starts on Monday, 21 September, and concludes on Tuesday, 6 October.
Across that stretch, the 24-year-old is set to miss United’s next four Premier League fixtures, one Champions League game and a Carabao Cup third-round tie.
That situation, however, could turn into an opportunity for Shea Lacey, who was introduced from the bench late on against Hull City.
The 19-year-old also showed promise during pre-season and is now expected to get more minutes in Amad’s absence.
