Police have arrested a cook for allegedly trying to rape a domestic help in the same flat where they both worked. The flat is located in a residential complex near the EM Bypass. According to the police, the man attacked the woman with a knife and scissors when she resisted his advances. The accused, 32-year-old Montu Kumar, was arrested on Sunday evening from a train near Durgapur while he was trying to flee.

Attacked with kitchen knife and scissors

The incident took place around 3 pm on Sunday in a flat inside one of the complex's towers. The 32-year-old woman had gone to the flat for her daily cooking duties, just like any other day. That's when Montu Kumar, also 32, allegedly attacked her. The victim had only recently started working at this flat. She was alone in the kitchen when Montu suddenly pounced on her. When she tried to fight him off, he grabbed a kitchen knife and a pair of scissors and attacked her. An officer from the Anandapur police station said, "The woman was alone in the kitchen when Montu assaulted her. When she resisted, he attacked her with a kitchen knife and scissors. He fled the scene right after."

Arrested from a moving train

The woman, who was seriously injured, has been admitted to a private hospital. Just a few hours after the attack, police managed to arrest Montu from a moving train. After the incident, Montu had immediately fled the flat. Once the police learned he was on the run, they launched a manhunt. The state police's anti-goonda squad tracked his movements, with help from the Railway Police. This joint effort helped them zero in on his location. On Sunday night, a team of Kolkata Police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) boarded the train as it was passing through Durgapur and arrested him. Police confirmed that Kumar was brought back to Kolkata the same night and will be produced in court on Monday.
