The second test match between India and Sri Lanka has started from 23 August. This match is being played at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The Indian team looked in good condition on the first day of the match. By the end of the day's play, India had scored 300 runs at the loss of 5 wickets. In this innings of India, Devdutt Padikkal batted brilliantly and scored the second century of his Test career. His innings helped a lot in putting the team in a strong position. On the first day, Sri Lankan bowlers bowled a total of 85 overs against India.
Devdutt Padikkal played a brilliant inning of 117 runs in 193 balls. During this he hit 12 fours. Whereas, Shubhman Gill scored 50 runs in 108 balls. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja missed half-centuries. Jaiswal was out after scoring 45 runs, while Jadeja scored 43 runs. KL Rahul once again could not play a big innings and was out after scoring 18 runs. At the same time, Rishabh Pant had to retire after the ball hit his wrist.

India's beginning was nothing special. In the morning session, the team lost two wickets before reaching 66 runs. After this, Devdutt Padikkal and Shubhman Gill took over the innings and there was a brilliant partnership of 120 runs between them. This partnership got India out of a difficult situation. After tea, India started playing with a score of 187/3. Padikkal and Rishabh Pant batted carefully and took the team's score beyond 200. After Pant's retirement, Ravindra Jadeja came to bat.
After completing the century, Devdutt Padikkal continued to score runs rapidly and took India's score to 259 runs. However, Keshara Nuwantha dismissed him on the second ball of the 77th over. After Padikkal's dismissal, India scored 291 runs in 80 overs. After this, Asitha Fernando bowled Ravindra Jadeja on the first ball of the 85th over.
After Jadeja's dismissal, debutant Saransh Jain came to bat. He took India to the 300-run mark by hitting a four on the third ball of the same over. After this India did not lose any more wicket. At the end of the first day's play, India's score was 300/5. Despite the initial setbacks, the Indian team is in a strong position.

Asitha Fernando was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka on the first day of the Colombo Test. He took 3 wickets in 16 overs. Whereas Lahiru Kumara and Keshar Nuwantha got one wicket each. Now on the second day, Team India will be eyeing to score a big score, while the Sri Lankan team will try to take the remaining wickets as soon as possible.
