The other day, there was some chatter at work about running—my colleagues said that both marathon training and trail running are trending right now. And apparently, social running clubs are on the rise. As someone who ran marathons in my 20s and joined local running clubs whenever I moved to a new city, I was highly skeptical.

It turns out my colleagues had the data on their side. According to Strava’s year-end reportthere was a 3.5x increase in running clubs last year. Participation in running races is up, too, according to Running USA.
