Antony Perumbavoor Confirms 'Drishyam 4' Plans

Producer Antony Perumbavoor recently shared an important update about the franchise at an event. He confirmed that another chapter of Drishyam will be made and revealed that work on the next film is already being taken forward.

Details surrounding the plot and release date, however, remain under wraps for now. Mohanlal is expected to return in the role that has become synonymous with the franchise, Georgekutty.

Jeethu Joseph Wants Time For The Next Story

Director Jeethu Joseph had earlier spoken to The Hollywood Reporter about the continued demand for another instalment. According to the filmmaker, the makers have repeatedly encouraged him to think about the next chapter after every film.

Jeethu Joseph said, “He told me to keep thinking about the story. After the first film, he asked me to think about the second one. Then, while we were shooting the second part, he said, ‘Let’s start the third one,’ and now he is saying that we should work on the fourth part. The next part should not be made in a hurry just because of the success of the film. I want to give enough time to the story and characters so that the next film is also liked by the audience.”

Why The Drishyam Franchise Became So Popular

At the centre of Drishyam is Georgekutty, an ordinary man who is prepared to go to extraordinary lengths to protect his family. The franchise combines family drama with crime and suspense, creating a story that has kept audiences invested across its films.

Mohanlal's portrayal of Georgekutty has been a major part of that appeal. His performance helped turn the character into one of the most recognisable figures in Indian crime thrillers, while the franchise itself gained popularity well beyond India.

Drishyam Was Remade In Several Languages

The success of the Malayalam original led to remakes in multiple languages. In Hindi, Ajay Devgn-led 'Drishyam' and 'Drishyam 2' also received a strong response from audiences.

Devgn played Vijay Salgaonkar in the Hindi adaptations. Their success helped introduce the story to an even wider audience across the country, further strengthening the franchise's popularity.

Drishyam 3: Release Date And Box Office

Drishyam 3 released in cinemas on 21 May 2026. The film featured Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Siddique, Murali Gopy and Asha Sharath among its cast.

According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the film collected Rs 249 crore worldwide. Its performance once again highlighted the continued audience interest in Georgekutty and his family.

When Did The First Drishyam Film Release?

The first 'Drishyam' film arrived in cinemas on 19 December 2013, with Mohanlal taking on the role of Georgekutty. As reported by Bollywood Hungama, the film was made on a budget of around Rs 5 crore and earned nearly Rs 62 crore worldwide.

The film's gripping storyline, suspense and Mohanlal's performance helped it connect strongly with audiences. The franchise continued with 'Drishyam 2', which was released in 2021 on Amazon Prime Video rather than in cinemas.

The sequel brought back Mohanlal and the returning cast members, carrying their characters forward. The success of both films eventually established Drishyam as a major crime-thriller franchise, setting the stage for its next chapter with Drishyam 3 and now the confirmed Drishyam 4.
