Who is Bhadra?
According to mythological beliefs, Bhadra is to the family of Sun God. She has been described as the daughter of Sun God and Shadow and sister of Shanidev. In religious stories, Bhadra’s form has been described as fierce. His complexion is described as black, hair is long and teeth are big. There is also mention of aggressiveness in his nature. It is said that since birth, Bhadra started creating obstacles in auspicious and auspicious works. Due to this nature of his, Surya Dev started worrying about his marriage. Many people refused to marry Bhadra because of her fierce nature. After this, Sun God asked Brahma ji for the solution to this problem.
Brahma ji gave special place to Bhadra
According to mythological belief, Lord Brahma gave a special place to Bhadra in the calendar. He told Bhadra to roam around the earth, heaven and underworld as per the fixed time. During this period, those who do auspicious work and ignore Bhadra, she can hinder their work. On the basis of this belief, Vishti Karan is known as Bhadra in the almanac. What is Bhadra Kaal?
There are five main parts considered in the Hindu calendar. Date, Vaar, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karan. In these, Karan is half of a Tithi. There are two Karanas in one Tithi and a total of 11 Karanas are considered. Of these, seven variables are considered to be Karanbav, Balav, Kaulav, Taitil, Gar, Vanij and Vishti, while four stable Karans are considered to be Shakuni, Chatushpad, Naga and Kinstughna. Among these, Vishti Karan is called Bhadra. In astrological calculations, the residence of Bhadra is determined on the basis of the position of the Moon. It is believed that when the Moon is in Cancer, Leo, Aquarius or Pisces, Bhadra is considered to reside on Earth. At such times, Bhadra is considered to have influence on humans. Whereas when the Moon is in Aries, Taurus, Gemini and Scorpio, Bhadra is considered to reside in heaven and when the Moon is in Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius and Capricorn, it is considered to be in the underworld.
Why not tie Rakhi during Bhadra period?
Bhadra is considered a fierce period. For this reason, there is a tradition of avoiding marriage, housewarming and other auspicious activities during this period. Raksha Bandhan is also included in the auspicious works, hence tying Rakhi on brother’s wrist during Bhadra is also considered taboo. Bhadra will not affect Rakshabandhan in 2026
This year Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on Friday, 28th August. According to Panchang calculations, on this day Bhadra will end before sunrise. Therefore, there will be no hindrance of Bhadra in tying Rakhi on the day of Rakshabandhan. Morning time will also be free from Bhadra, hence sisters can tie Rakhi on brother’s wrist in auspicious time.
