We make sure to charge the phone once or twice a day so that it doesn’t run out of battery. But due to some small mistakes we make while charging, the battery of the phone and its performance are adversely affected. Both Apple and Google advise in their safety guidelines to avoid bad cables, moisture and excessive heat.
Just because a cable fits the phone doesn’t mean it’s quality. A bad, cut or local cable slows charging and can damage the phone. Google also recommends using original or certified cables. Using the wrong cable can be dangerous, especially in phones that support fast charging.
Stop charging if the phone overheats
It’s normal for the phone to get warm during charging, but don’t ignore it if it’s overheating. Excessive temperatures can shorten battery life. In such a situation, the phone should be removed from charging for a while and kept in a cool place.
Do not charge under a pillow or blanket
Many people charge the phone at night and keep it under a pillow or blanket. The phone overheats as the heat generated during charging does not get a place to escape. So the phone should always be kept in an open place with good ventilation.
Do not charge when there is moisture or water in the port
Do not connect the cable if there is water or moisture in the charging port of the phone. According to Google and Apple guidelines, don’t charge the phone while the port is wet until it’s completely dry. Do not use a hair dryer or hot compressed air to dry a moist port.
Don’t overlook a loose or bad charging port
If the charging cable keeps coming out or shaking stops charging, the port may be clogged with dust. Do not use a sharp pin or metal object to clean the port. If the port looks burnt or melted, get it checked at an authorized service center.
Do not charge in direct sunlight or in a hot place
Avoid charging the phone on the car dashboard, near a window in direct sunlight or near hot appliances. Overheating can permanently reduce battery capacity.
Is it wrong to charge the phone overnight?
Most of today’s modern smartphones automatically control the power supply once it is 100% charged. So just keeping it charging overnight doesn’t damage the phone immediately. But, if the phone is charging at night in a closed place or in a hot environment, it can be harmful.
