Jayant Chaudhary, reacting to Akhilesh Yadav's statement, said that in a democracy, the public is the biggest force and it is they who decide who is a penny and who is a rupee. He targeted SP, citing political arrogance as the reason for its downfall.

Controversy started with 'Chavanni' statement

Akhilesh Yadav had recently taken a dig at the old alliance partners by saying that they worked to convert 'Chavanni' into rupees, but despite this some people left him. This statement was seen politically as being linked to Jayant Chaudhary and RLD.

After this, the resentment of leaders and workers associated with RLD came to light in Western UP. Akhilesh and Jayant were once together

At one time, the pair of Akhilesh Yadav and Jayant Chaudhary was considered the strong axis of the SP-RLD alliance in western UP. Both the parties had contested the 2022 assembly elections together. During that time, special emphasis was laid on solving the Jat-Muslim equation.

However, later the political paths of both the leaders parted ways. Jayant Choudhary moved with the NDA and became a minister in the central government, while Akhilesh Yadav is moving forward on the strategy of strengthening SP's PDA i.e. backward, Dalit and minority social alliance.

In such a situation, the increasing rhetoric between the two leaders is also revealing the changed political picture of Western UP.

Why will Western UP be important in 2027?

The role of Jat voters is considered important in many assembly seats of Western Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, votes of Muslims, Gurjars, Dalits and other backward classes can also affect the election results.

The challenge before RLD is to retain its traditional Jat-farmer base with the NDA. At the same time, SP will try to strengthen its old support base in Western UP and also include other backward and deprived sections with itself.
