When needed, Android will try to compress the app's data to run it in less RAM. This may make some apps feel a little slow. Even after this, if the app continues to use too much memory, the system can close it.
Phones with 3GB and 4GB RAM have more benefits
Smartphones with less RAM can get the most benefit from this feature. Phones with 3GB or 4GB RAM run out of memory quickly when running heavy apps or multiple apps simultaneously. This causes the phone to slow down, the app reloads or hangs. In Android 17, the system will be able to prevent any one app from using more RAM than required, so that memory will be available for the rest of the system as well.
Problems may increase for big apps
Some gaming, video editing and professional apps actually require more RAM. The new memory limit can become a challenge for such apps. If the developers do not optimize the app according to the new system of Android 17, the app may become slow or even crash when it requires more memory.
After Pixel, the feature will reach other Android phones
Google started this type of memory control with Pixel smartphones. Now with Android 17, preparations are being made to extend it to other Android devices. It will be able to work on different devices ranging from entry-level phones with 4GB RAM to premium smartphones with 16GB RAM. Through this feature, Android will focus on using the entire phone's memory in a balanced manner instead of giving more RAM to any one app.
