The summer transfer window shuts on 1 September, with clubs across Europe looking to complete their business before the 2026/27 season gets under way.
There have already been several high-profile moves around Europe this summer, with Barcelona signing Rodri and the transfers involving Morgan Rogers, Elliot Anderson and Bruno Guimaraes all drawing attention.
But although some sides may feel their work is finished for this summer, most clubs - particularly a number in the Premier League - know they still need more arrivals if they are to compete properly this season.
Teams such as Newcastle and Aston Villa must replace some of the stars they have lost, while Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and even champions Arsenal are all still hoping to make late additions over the coming days.
So, with just over a week left in the window, here are 10 big transfers that could still happen before deadline day
Liverpool's chase for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola has been one of the biggest stories of the summer. Although the Reds have not yet made a formal bid for the France international, this is a move that could go right down to the final days of the window. PSG are believed to want around £145m for the 23-year-old, and while Liverpool are not prepared to go that high, there remains hope at Anfield that an agreement could be reached at closer to £120m. Barcola was left out of the PSG squad for the French Super Cup last week, with manager Luis Enrique refusing to comment on his future, and the two clubs remain in talks. Reports suggest the transfer could still be completed before the end of the month.
Barcola scored three goals for France during this summer's World Cup.
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez was booed on his return to Stamford Bridge after a turbulent summer that ended with a red card and defeat in the World Cup final. The Argentine has previously indicated that he would be open to leaving the Blues, and new Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca is a big admirer of his former midfielder. However, Chelsea had earlier set a deadline of 5pm on Friday 14 August for clubs to submit bids for Fernandez, and with that deadline now gone, the club expect him to remain at Stamford Bridge. Xabi Alonso recently said Fernandez is "training really well" as he gets ready for the new season, but City could still test Chelsea's stance before the window closes, especially if they come in with an offer at or near the Blues' £120m valuation.
Fernandez has attracted interest from Manchester City.
Arsenal's widely reported pursuit of Vinicius Jr may have ended in frustration, but the Gunners are still keen to bring in a left-sided forward before the summer window closes. That has led them to Juventus winger Kenan Yildiz, with the Turkiye international valued at more than £60m by the Serie A club. There is room for negotiation, with Gabriel Martinelli even a possible part of the discussions in the opposite direction, and this is one to monitor closely as the window enters its final days, even if the champions may choose to wait until January before strengthening their attack.
The long-running story around Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is another that has continued throughout the summer, with the Argentina international remaining Arsenal's main target during the window. The Gunners appeared to look elsewhere after Alvarez made it clear he wanted to join Barcelona, but with Atletico refusing to do business with their LaLiga rivals, that could reopen the door for Mikel Arteta and his club. Any move would require a club-record fee, though, with Atletico having already rejected offers of £85m and £130m from Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively. The Spanish side insist Alvarez is not for sale at any price this summer, although Arsenal may still decide to put that resolve to the test.
Julian Alvarez is a target for both Arsenal and Barcelona.
While Liverpool's pursuit of Barcola has dragged on for much of the window, their move for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh appeared to come from nowhere. Brighton turned down the £50m bid, and it remains unclear whether Liverpool will return with an improved offer for the Gambia winger, who joined the Seagulls from Newcastle for £30m two years ago. Liverpool are searching for a replacement for Mohamed Salah, and although much of their budget has been set aside for a winger such as Barcola, it appears the Reds may look at other options if talks with PSG do not lead anywhere.
The departures of Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Tijjani Reijnders this summer mean Manchester City are in urgent need of midfield reinforcements, even after bringing in Elliot Anderson. While Enzo Fernandez has been a prominent target, City are also said to be closing in on Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is valued by the French club at around £85m. Discussions between the clubs have been under way for some time, and the 18-year-old is expected to complete the move after impressing for Morocco at this summer's World Cup.
Manchester City have agreed a deal to sell Savinho to Tottenham Hotspur for up to £85m, and it looks as though Omar Marmoush could soon follow the Brazilian to north London. Marmoush joined City for £59m in January 2025, but he is another player who did not fully settle quickly at the Etihad Stadium. Although he showed flashes of quality, he never established himself as a regular starter under Pep Guardiola, and Spurs are hoping to strike a deal worth around £75m, which would take the combined fee for the two City players to close to £160m.
Omar Marmoush remains a target for Spurs after they agreed a deal for Savinho.
Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba has been on Manchester United's radar since last summer, when Brighton made it clear they wanted at least 100m for the Cameroon international. The 22-year-old struggled with injuries and inconsistent form last season, and it now appears the Seagulls may be willing to cash in this summer. United recently made a £60m bid for the midfielder, and although Brighton are asking for a slightly bigger fee, it is believed the two clubs should be able to reach an agreement before the end of the window.
Another Manchester City midfielder who could leave the Etihad is Nicolas Gonzalez. The Spaniard arrived from Porto for £50m in February 2025, but he has not been able to settle in Manchester and seemingly did not earn Guardiola's trust. Reports indicate Newcastle want to sign him, and while Gonzalez may still believe he can make his mark at City, the club could opt to sell if they can recover the fee they paid, as they continue reshaping their midfield.
Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has long been admired by the top clubs in England, and Manchester City recently made an enquiry for him. The 22-year-old has also reportedly been a long-term Liverpool target, although Palace insist he will not leave this summer. Wharton did not make England's squad this summer, but he has impressed over the past two seasons at Selhurst Park, and Palace's hierarchy are likely aware that his value will only rise further as they aim to command a huge fee in future. At the moment, this does not look like a likely move, though anything can happen if one of the big clubs decides to challenge Palace's position.
Wharton has impressed over the last two seasons at Selhurst Park.
