Meerut. After the case of alleged assault on SP leaders came to light in Meerut, action has been taken in the police department. Immediately after taking charge, the new SSP BBGTS Murthy put 8 policemen including the Inspector in line. The investigation of the case has been handed over to Saharanpur DIG Abhishek Singh.

Earlier on Thursday late night, the government had transferred 9 IPS officers. In this reshuffle, Meerut SSP Avinash Pandey was removed from the post and attached to the police headquarters in Lucknow. After the matter came to light, ADG Meerut Bhanu Bhaskar gave the responsibility of investigation to Saharanpur DIG.
Ordeal narrated in press conference
On Friday, SP leaders Digvijay Bhati and Mohit Jatav held a press conference and made serious allegations against the police. Digvijay Bhati's eyes were blindfolded. Showing his injuries, he accused the policemen of assault. He claims that he and Mohit were first beaten in the SSP's chamber and later taken to the SOG office located at Police Lines.
According to Digvijay, both of them were beaten up there also. He alleged that when he became unconscious, the policemen would bring him back to consciousness and beat him again. He also said that he was released after Atul Pradhan arrived around 2 am in the night.

Digvijay Bhati alleged that on August 19, he along with his District President Mohit Jatav had come to meet SSP Avinash Pandey. He says that both of them had gone to present their views regarding 8-10 people sent to jail in the case to the protest against Lalita Gautam murder case.
According to Bhati, when he tried to clarify in front of the SSP, the officer got angry. It is alleged that during this time, abusive language was used against him and it was said that he becomes a leader by wearing a kurta-pajama worth Rs 40, will he clash with us? When they protested, both of them were allegedly taken inside the chamber and beaten.
After this, Digvijay alleges that Civil Lines Inspector Akhilesh Gaur was asked to take both of them to the SOG office. There, in a closed room, his hands and legs were tied and he was accused of beating him with sticks.

During the press conference, Digvijay Bhati also accused the policemen of inhuman treatment. He claimed that the policemen played the song Ek Choli Ke Peech Kya Hai on mobile and asked both of them to dance to it. Bhati says that after the assault, his condition was such that he could not even stand properly, yet he was forced to dance. He alleged that during this time the policemen kept laughing at him and despite his folded hands and appealing for mercy, the beating was not stopped. He also claimed that he was threatened that if information about the incident reached the media, he would be treated worse.
