Bihar's Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has cornered the state government, terming the financial condition of Bihar as pathetic. On Friday he said that Bihar is burdened with huge debt. The state's total public debt has increased more than four times and the treasury is completely empty. Tejashwi said that the financial pressure has increased so much that funds are not available for salaries of government employees, social security pension of pensioners, dues of contractors and even for development works. Even students' student credit card amounts have been reduced and scholarships are also being eliminated.

Taking aim at the new Chief Minister, Tejashwi Yadav said that the Bihar Chief Minister nominated from Gujarat has no understanding of expenditure management, debt management and fiscal deficit. Giving figures, he said that in the financial year 2025-26, Bihar has recorded the highest fiscal deficit of 5.8 percent among the major states of the country. According to Tejashwi Yadav, the revenue deficit in the state is continuously increasing and the debt is increasing many times faster than that. The state's own revenue receipts are negligible in proportion to its expenditure. He alleged that the NDA government has no long-term concrete plan to increase revenue generation, improve budgetary management and control fiscal deficit.

NDA government took record loan

Tejashwi rejected the double engine government and termed it as useless and said that this government is pushing Bihar into such darkness that the people of Bihar will be horrified just by imagining it. He said that the corrupt people who came to power with the help of plutocracy and machine system have ruined the present as well as the future of Bihar. In the last two years, the NDA government has taken record loans, yet the state treasury is empty. Tejashwi raised the question as to where all the money of Bihar is going. They allege that the NDA government of Bihar is creating new records of corruption and organized loot.

The Leader of Opposition said that Bihar's serious financial crisis has now become a matter of collective concern for every justice-loving Bihari. He said that this crisis cannot be solved by the present corrupt and criminal NDA government. Tejashwi demanded that the government immediately issue a white paper explaining where the loan taken in the last two years was spent and what plan the government has to improve the deteriorating financial condition of the state. He said that if timely steps are not taken, Bihar's economy will completely collapse and the poor, farmers, students and employees will bear the brunt of it.
