There has been a fresh development regarding the future of Manchester United youngster Jacob Devaney.

Earlier this month, a report indicated that United had decided to allow Devaney to leave on loan before the summer transfer window shuts.

This followed the player’s own comments about his future, in which he made it clear that he wants regular first-team football.

Devaney said that although his main ambition is still to break into the United first team, he is open to a temporary move elsewhere so he can demonstrate what he can do.

He was involved in United’s pre-season schedule and played in the opening two matches against Rosenborg and Wrexham. Devaney found the net in the latter as the Red Devils ran out 5-0 winners.

In both of those games, he was used in central defence rather than in his preferred midfield position. However, he adapted smoothly and even earned praise from Michael Carrick.

Devaney spent the second half of last season on loan at St Mirren and now appears to be heading for another spell in Scottish football.

According to Simon Stone of the BBC, Hibernian are trying to complete a loan move for Devaney for the 2026/27 season.

Stone wrote, “Manchester United youngster Jacob Devaney is in talks with Hibernian over a loan move back to the Scottish Premiership.”

“It is understood there has been huge interest in Devaney. Talks with Hibs have reached an advanced stage, although the deal is not done.”

Devaney impressed during his time at St Mirren, so it is no surprise that there is demand for him. The 19-year-old made 18 appearances, with 16 of them coming as starts.

Meanwhile, United begin their Premier League campaign on Saturday with an away trip to Hull City.
