The new Premier League season has arrived, and with it comes a fresh set of kits across the top flight, as usual offering a mixed bag.
Some are outstanding bits of design, stylish works of art that will be appreciated for years to come. Others are badly judged efforts that probably should never have made it into production.
Here, we take a look through this season’s home and away shirts. From bottom to top, these are the Premier League 2026/27 kits, ranked and rated:
The barcode-style effect is a real strain on the eyes. Newcastle United’s home shirt ought to have stayed with straightforward, even black-and-white stripes — there was simply no need to overcomplicate it.
The huge Vitality sponsor logo is an eyesore, and the black framing around it makes sure it cannot be missed.
Some people will enjoy this. I do not — it feels strange and it looks ugly.
It resembles an oil spill.
The odd fade into white shorts does not really work, especially when seen from a distance.
I have never been keen on these psychedelic background patterns — there were several at the World Cup — and this is another one in that mould.
Glossy black feathers? No, thank you.
Not terrible, but I am not convinced the yellow flecks really fit here.
The swirling background is quite playful, but the very central placement of everything on the front of the shirt feels a little unusual.
Neat and sharp, though a touch uninspiring.
Unremarkable.
Strong shoulders. Perhaps too strong?
The collar is elegant, but beyond that this kit does not stir any particularly strong reaction.
We still prefer Coventry City in plain sky blue, but this is a good-looking striped shirt.
Like Fulham, it is simple and effective, even if it is not especially spectacular.
There is nothing to dislike here.
I really like the background pattern and the colour — though I may be in the minority on that — but yet again the enormous pink sponsor spoils the overall look.
Look closely and they are actually dotted lines, which is unusual. In effect, this shirt seems to be saying: ‘cut here’.
Very similar to the home version.
Bold and interesting.
Pleasant enough.
It is good to see a retro kit, although this one does feel especially, intensely dated. I think it is the lettered crest that makes it look a bit odd.
A rare horizontal stripe on a Premier League home shirt. We like it.
We rather like the castle motif in the background, along with the old-school club crest.
Simple colours and a crisp design.
A strong dark green base, with the red shoulders and neckline standing out nicely.
The badge pattern in the background is a bit garish, but from a distance this is actually a very slick look, with golden flecks on the crest, Nike tick and shoulder trim.
The colour is excellent, and the overall design offers something a little different.
We do like a sash, and this one has plenty happening with the dual colours and the various white lines. All in all, it is a strong look.
This is a simple, classy effort from Aston Villa.
Bright — but a lovely shade.
A fine evocation of the 1980s.
This kit is excellent, with gold-leaf trim lifting the imposing black base.
A brilliant shade of electric blue.
The sleeve trim and collar details give an extra flourish to what is already a very smart shirt.
Umbro rarely get it wrong, and this background pattern is really eye-catching. The oversized sponsor is unnecessary, but otherwise this is a superb addition to the Premier League.
This one is reportedly inspired by the Kingsman films, following director Matthew Vaughn buying shares in the club. The pinstripes look superb.
Hummel have produced a very strong contender here, creating a lovely retro shirt — the best of the throwback designs.
We really like this. Jazzy.
It is a truly striking reinterpretation of the old “bruised banana” kit, and we love everything about it — the background pattern, the colours and the club crest. This is our winner.
