When will the lunar eclipse occur on the day of Rakshabandhan?

The lunar eclipse occurring on August 28 will be a partial lunar eclipse. According to Indian time, its penumbral phase will start at around 6:53 am and will last till 11:22 am. Apart from India, this eclipse will be visible in Europe, Western Asia, Africa, North and South America and many parts of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Ocean. It can also be seen from some areas of Antarctica. In some parts of the world, a large part of the Moon may appear red-orange in color.

Why will the eclipse not be visible in India?

During the lunar eclipse, the Moon will remain below the horizon in India. For this reason it will not be possible to see this eclipse from most parts of the country. When an eclipse is not visible from any place, then according to religious beliefs, generally the Sutak of the eclipse is also not valid. There is a religious belief that the Sutak period begins about nine hours before the lunar eclipse. During this time, many people abstain from food, worship and other religious activities and the doors of temples are also closed. But this time the eclipse will not be visible in India, hence its Sutak period will not be considered valid in India.

Tradition of tying Raksha Sutra on Rakshabandhan

Rakshabandhan is not only the festival of love between brothers and sisters, but is also considered a symbol of protection and good wishes. On this day, a sister ties Rakhi or Raksha Sutra on her brother’s wrist and wishes for his happiness, health, prosperity and long life. In return the brother takes a pledge to protect his sister. Before tying Rakhi, the sister applies Roli or Kumkum tilak to the brother, offers Akshat and performs the Aarti. After this, Rakhi is tied after feeding sweets. Brother also gives gifts to sister as per his capacity.
