Rent A Boyfriend Cyber Scam: A new kind of scam has come to light on the social media platform, where people are being made victims in a very clever way. Messages and advertisements in the name of ‘Rent a Boyfriend / Girlfriend’ are going viral on social media, which may be a new trap of cyber frauds. The agency ‘Cyber Dost’ (Cyber Dost I4C) working under the Ministry of Home Affairs has given a special warning to the people about this.

A mesh is created using AI photos

‘Cyber Dost I4C’ posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and informed about this new scam. According to the post, cyber scammers are tricking people by using fake photos and profiles created by artificial intelligence (AI). They lure people into their trap based on fake image and then demand money on various pretexts.

Asking for money in online love is a ‘red flag’

Cyber agencies have suggested some important points to keep in mind to avoid dating and online fraud:

  • Avoid fake dating apps: Platforms or fake dating apps that provide boyfriend-girlfriend for rent should be avoided. There are many dubious people on such platforms, whose main intention is to withdraw money from your bank account.
  • Don’t blindly believe: Always be alert while communicating on dating platforms or social media. Do not blindly trust any stranger.
  • Demanding money is the biggest threat: In online friendship or love, if a person asks for money under the pretext of compulsion, then it is a big sign of a scam (Red Flag).
  • Do not share confidential information: Never share your bank details, UPI PIN or One Time Password (OTP) received on the phone with such people.
