Five young footballers worth keeping an eye on in the Premier League this season, ranging from record-setting teenagers to highly gifted emerging stars.
Max Dowman became a widely recognised name last season after his record-breaking achievements for Arsenal. Dowman became the youngest-ever player to debut in the Champions League and the youngest-ever Premier League goalscorer, finding the net against Everton in a landmark moment.
The 16-year-old made six league appearances last season and collected a Premier League winners' medal, and he will now be aiming to kick on in 2026/27. Arsenal are unlikely to hurry the exceptionally talented teenager, but his ability suggests the Gunners will not be able to keep him out for too long.
Brian Madjo announced himself during last week's UEFA Super Cup final, with the 17-year-old standing out despite Aston Villa's defeat. Villa won an appeal to allow Madjo to play for the first team before turning 18, and the forward immediately showed that he is ready.
Madjo celebrated becoming the youngest-ever player to appear in the Super Cup by scoring against Paris Saint-Germain, and he might easily have ended the game with a hat-trick as well.
At times, he powered past Willian Pacho and Marquinhos, matching up impressively against the back-to-back Champions League winners. It was the latest goal in a five-goal pre-season for Madjo, who has shown Unai Emery that he is an option right now, not just for the future.
One of the real bright spots of Liverpool's pre-season, Trey Nyoni had been tipped to go out on loan, but he now seems to have done enough to convince Andoni Iraola to keep him at Anfield for the season.
The teenager has looked completely comfortable in a deeper midfield role, receiving the ball confidently in tight spaces and helping Liverpool play through pressure. With the shape of Liverpool's midfield still looking uncertain, Nyoni has made a strong case for game time.
JJ Gabriel is perhaps Manchester United's worst-kept secret. From jumping four age groups to make his Under-18 debut to training with the first-team squad at the age of 15, Gabriel appears to be on course for a major future.
He was named Under-18 Premier League Player of the Season in 2025/26 after scoring 20 goals in only 21 league appearances for the Red Devils. And it is worth remembering that he does not turn 16 until October.
Roberto De Zerbi has made no attempt to hide his admiration for Luca Williams-Barnett after the Tottenham Hotspur youngster impressed in pre-season.
The 17-year-old stood out for the North London club during their pre-season tour, and De Zerbi has said the midfielder has the potential to become a 'special' player.
"He is a precious diamond. We have to work on him in the final third and he must work hard on his physicality. I’ve worked with a lot of young players in my time and he’s a potentially special player,"
