Liverpool are looking to balance sales with strengthening their squad.
Liverpool are moving closer to offloading a first-team regular after terms were agreed for his next move.
After spending well over £400 million last season, the Reds have had a quieter summer this time, bringing in the likes of Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz to add depth to the group that new manager Andoni Iraola is trying to get firing.
With Liverpool having finished fifth last season and Arne Slot losing his job, the rebuild is now well under way — and another fan favourite could yet be among those to depart.
While Liverpool are concentrating on signing Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye before the transfer window shuts, the club have already seen the exits of players such as Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah as a new era begins on Merseyside.
Now, Sport Witness have reported that Curtis Jones — who became more of a peripheral figure under Arne Slot last term — is keen to leave for Inter Milan after agreeing a contract with the Italian champions.
The Liverpool-born midfielder was handed his first-team debut in 2018 and properly announced himself with a superb strike in an FA Cup Merseyside derby in January 2020, before going on to establish himself under Jurgen Klopp.
However, although Jones made 49 appearances in all competitions last season, he started only half of the Premier League matches for which he was included in the squad, with Slot preferring Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch in midfield behind new signing Florian Wirtz.
FourFourTwo understands that Jones had come close to leaving in January, and this latest report repeats that his interest in a move to Serie A has not changed.
Intermediaries are now said to be working on the transfer, with growing belief that Liverpool will lower their asking price to below €40 million.
Sport Witness cite Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, who claim the midfielder is the “ultimate transfer wish” of Inter manager Crististian Chivu.
Belief is said to be increasing that the move will happen, with the report adding that “Inter will move late” in order to complete the deal.
Inter have already signed John Stones and Djed Spence from the Premier League this summer, as they aim to make it three English-market arrivals ahead of their Scudetto defence this season.
According to Transfermarkt, Jones is valued at €35m. Liverpool face Newcastle United in the opening match of the Premier League season.
