Thalapathy Vijay's New Announcements: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay made two significant announcements on Wednesday, August 19, for the state's residents and dairy farmers. He announced an increase in the annual health insurance coverage under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh. Additionally, the procurement price of milk purchased from farmers by the state-run dairy company, Aavin, has been raised. Here are the details of the news:
**Milk rates increased by ₹3 per liter**
Making an announcement in the Legislative Assembly under Rule 110, the Chief Minister stated that Aavin would now procure milk from dairy farmers at a rate of ₹41 per liter instead of ₹38. The new rate includes a government-provided incentive of ₹3 per liter. He noted that this decision was taken to boost farmers' income and safeguard their interests, despite the state's financial challenges.
**Over 3.16 lakh milk producers to benefit**
The government states that this decision will directly benefit more than 3.16 lakh dairy farmers in the state. The hike in milk procurement rates will place an additional monthly burden of approximately ₹30 crore on the state exchequer. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Vijay targeted the previous DMK government, alleging that no concrete steps were taken during its tenure to raise procurement prices in the interest of milk producers.
**Health insurance cover increased fivefold**
CM Vijay announced an increase in the annual health insurance coverage under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh. He emphasized that quality healthcare services are a right for every citizen, not merely a facility.
According to the Chief Minister, the government is committed to providing superior treatment facilities to all people, regardless of income, social status, or geographical location. He added that the government is set to launch several new schemes and reformative measures to further strengthen the healthcare sector and provide better facilities to patients.
