If you are planning to visit the bank today for tasks like withdrawing cash, depositing cheques, or getting a demand draft made, you might find the bank closed. Banks in certain states are closed today, so it is possible that banks in your city are also shut. According to the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar, there is a bank holiday in Tripura today to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.
Consequently, both public and private sector banks across the state—including the capital, Agartala—will remain closed. Normal operations will not take place at branches of Punjab National Bank (PNB), State Bank of India (SBI), Bank of Baroda, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and others.
Why are banks closed today?
August 19 marks the birth anniversary of the former Maharaja of Tripura, Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. He is considered the architect of modern Tripura. To honor his contributions, the state government declares a public holiday on this day every year. As a result, banking services are affected, and bank branches in the state remain closed.
Are banks open in Delhi, Mumbai, Noida, and Lucknow?
Yes, a nationwide bank holiday has not been declared for today, August 19. Banks are open as usual in most cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Noida, Gurugram, Lucknow, Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Patna, Chandigarh, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Customers in these regions will continue to receive regular services at bank branches.
Online banking will remain operational
Despite the closure of bank branches, customers need not worry about digital banking services. Internet banking, UPI, mobile banking, ATM services, and most card-related transactions will continue as usual. Customers can transfer money, pay bills, and utilize other online banking services.
