Train News: In collaboration with Western Railway, the FDA has shut down 22 food stalls. These stalls were found lacking in cleanliness and quality standards.

Train News: Enforcement regarding food safety has intensified across the country. Once again, the FDA has taken decisive action. Working with Western Railway's commercial department, the FDA has closed 22 food stalls at railway stations in Mumbai. The reasons for this crackdown were the same: poor hygiene and substandard quality. You can find out here which stations were affected.

Why was action taken?

According to Western Railway, 1,523 routine inspections were conducted across its network between January and July of this year. Following the inspection reports, action was taken against 22 stalls for violating regulations, and fines totaling ₹1,14,000 were imposed on vendors who failed to comply with the rules.

Where were the stalls shut down?

The strictest action was taken at Bandra station, where 11 stalls were sealed simultaneously. Apart from Bandra, stalls were also closed at Grant Road, Lower Parel, Charni Road, and Marine Lines stations.

Crackdown on hotels too?

Action has been taken not only at railway stations but also against hotels. The licenses of six hotels, clubs, and eateries in Bandra, Dahisar, Khar, Vile Parle, Marol, and Chembur have been suspended. Adulterated paneer, expired products, insects, and filth were found at these establishments.

What should the common person do?

Those who eat at station stalls should be mindful of hygiene standards. However, the FDA and Western Railway are striving to ensure that safe food is available at stations and that strict attention is paid to cleanliness.
