A significant update has emerged regarding the future of Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes amid interest from Galatasaray.
With fewer than seven days to go before United begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign, it has come to light that Galatasaray have been monitoring Fernandes.
The captain was outstanding last season, making a major contribution as United finished third and qualified for the Champions League for the first time in two years. He also broke the assist record that had previously been shared by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.
Fernandes returned to pre-season training with United at the beginning of August after representing Portugal at the World Cup. He has also featured in United’s last three pre-season matches.
A recent report relayed that United have made their stance clear and will not consider approaches from Galatasaray, or indeed any other club, for Fernandes. The playmaker is viewed as untouchable.
According to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, Galatasaray put forward a staggering wage offer to Fernandes. Whitwell also reported that Fernandes is currently in active talks over signing a new contract to prolong his stay at Old Trafford.
Whitwell wrote, “Manchester United are in contract talks with Bruno Fernandes amid the player receiving a lucrative proposal from Galatasaray.”
“The Turkish club offered the 31-year-old a salary of €20million (£17.1m;$23.2m) a year, but Fernandes wants to remain at United and is in discussions about a new deal.”
It is understood that Fernandes had a €65m release clause that was available only to overseas clubs earlier this summer, but that clause has now expired. United maintain that they did not receive any formal approach for Fernandes.
Fernandes’ existing contract runs until 2027. United also hold the option to extend it by a further year.
The start of negotiations over a fresh deal would, however, appear to underline that he still has strong backing within the club and remains a central figure in its long-term plans.
United are back in action on Saturday when they take on Hull City.
