Arsenal begin the defence of their Premier League crown as local rivalries headline the opening round of the 2026/27 season.
After a three-month break dominated by the World Cup summer, the Premier League returns to television screens.
The spotlight is firmly on reigning champions Arsenal, who ended a 22-year wait to finish top of the table in May and now take on the demanding challenge of retaining the title.
Initial indications suggest they are ready for that test. Their emphatic 3-0 win over last season’s runners-up Manchester City in the Community Shield has already sent an early message to the rest of the division.
There are several other contenders in the mix as well. Chelsea start under a new manager with Xabi Alonso in charge, while Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham have gone through an extensive reshaping of the squad.
The league also welcomes three fresh teams, with Hull City, Coventry and Ipswich all promoted to the top flight.
*Matches scheduled to start at 3pm on Saturdays are subject to the 3pm blackout and cannot be shown live on television.
