When will banks remain closed during the rest of August?
According to official RBI guidelines, the details of major holidays and weekends falling in the second half of August are as follows:
August 16: Sunday – Weekly holiday across the country.
August 22: Fourth Saturday – Holiday for all public and private sector banks.
August 23: Sunday – Weekly holiday across the country.
August 28: First Onam – Banks will remain closed in Kerala.
August 29: Thiruvonam – Banks will remain closed in Kerala.
August 30: Sunday – Weekly holiday across the country.
August 31: Sri Krishna Janmashtami / Avani Avittam – In several states, including UP, MP, Delhi, Gujarat, and Rajasthan.
Festivals like Onam are celebrated primarily in Kerala; therefore, banks in the rest of the country will operate normally on those days. Since August 22 is the fourth Saturday of the month, banks across the country will remain closed on that day.
Online banking and digital services will remain operational
Customers will not face significant inconvenience despite the bank branches being closed. Digital and online banking services—such as net banking, mobile apps, and UPI—will remain operational 24x7. ATMs and Cash Deposit Machines (CDMs) will remain available for cash withdrawals and deposits. If you have any work involving large cash transactions or drafts, complete it on a working day either before or after the holidays.
