Chelsea winger Pedro Neto could be set for an unexpected switch to Saudi Arabia, with Al Hilal making strong headway in their bid to sign the Portugal international. The 26-year-old had earlier drawn interest from Premier League rivals, most notably Manchester City, but Al Hilal have now acted decisively.
Chelsea are willing to hold talks over a transfer even though Neto remains an important option in the squad, with the club’s increasing number of attacking players creating tougher competition for places.
A transfer worth about €60 million would also help Chelsea recoup most of the fee they spent when they signed Neto from Wolves in 2024.
As per Sky Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Al Hilal have already reached an agreement with Neto on personal terms and are now in direct negotiations with Chelsea.
Chelsea are said to be open to selling the winger and are seeking around €60m (£51m) before sanctioning his exit. Al Hilal believe a full agreement can be reached, with discussions between the two clubs still ongoing.
This marks a major shift in Neto’s situation. ESPN has also reported that the Portugal international is prepared to leave Stamford Bridge and that Al Hilal are ready to match Chelsea’s valuation.
Manchester City had previously looked at Neto while searching for another winger.
From a financial point of view, Chelsea can see the appeal.
Their squad includes a number of players who can play in wide positions, which means Neto is no longer considered untouchable. Bringing in around €60m would also amount to a solid return on a player who cost roughly £54m two years ago.
The larger issue is whether Chelsea would be giving up too much proven Premier League quality.
Neto brings speed, directness and the versatility to operate on either wing. At 26, he should be moving into the peak years of his career rather than nearing the end of it.
That is why Al Hilal’s move is a little surprising from the player’s point of view, especially as there had been Premier League interest earlier in the transfer window.
Even so, personal terms have already been settled, giving the Saudi club a significant edge. The main outstanding issue now is Chelsea’s asking price.
