Leeds United centre-back Sebastiaan Bornauw is expected to arrive in Germany today as he closes in on a move away from Elland Road to join Bundesliga outfit Hamburg.

The Whites signed Bornauw from Wolfsburg last summer in a deal worth £5m, but he largely played a secondary role under Daniel Farke over the course of last season.

Because of limited minutes, he had been open to leaving Elland Road in the winter window, with the centre-back linked with a return to Germany, though that switch did not happen.

This summer, Leeds have already signed Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo and they have also agreed a deal with Borussia Monchengladbach for another centre-back, Nico Elvedi.

The Belgian defender is again attracting interest from Germany, with Hamburg keen to replace former Spurs star Luka Vuskovic, who completed a £46m move to Brighton this summer.

With Elvedi edging closer to his switch, Leeds are waiting to move Bornauw on, while Hamburg want to bring him in on loan with an option to sign him next summer.

It is now being suggested that Hamburg have succeeded in agreeing a loan deal for the centre-back, with German daily Hamburger Morgenpost declaring ‘he’s coming’.

The Leeds player is due to undergo his medical with Hamburg this Sunday and will hope to come through the tests without any issues.

However, whether Hamburg have managed to secure an option to buy as part of the loan agreement ‘is not yet known’.

Bornauw has made 140 Bundesliga appearances so far and, if everything goes to plan, the Leeds defender will hope to make a strong impression at Hamburg during this season.

Leeds have already seen several players depart Elland Road this summer and Bornauw is set to become the latest to do so, though that list of exits could still grow further.

Striker Joel Piroe wants to leave, although his £16m asking price remains a problem, but it has been suggested that Leeds could be willing to send Piroe out on loan with an obligation to buy in the current window.

Lucas Perri could also soon see his transfer situation resolved, with Torino wanting him to travel to Turin this evening for his medical.

Leeds will start their Premier League campaign next Saturday against Nottingham Forest, and they will be eager to complete the Elvedi deal in time to have him available for that match.
