Monsoon is once again in full swing in Uttar Pradesh. Clouds have camped in most parts of the state and people suffering from humidity may have got relief, but now this relief seems to be turning into trouble. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is going to be heavy to very heavy rain in many districts of UP for the next 4 days. Especially in eastern Uttar Pradesh, a red-orange alert has been issued for torrential rain from 16 to 18 August, while the orgy of clouds is expected to continue on 19 August also.

Western UP will also not remain untouched by this wet weather. There will also be a period of heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. Actually, meteorologists say that the monsoon trough line is currently passing over North India. Also, a strong cyclonic circulation has become active in the upper atmosphere of northwestern Uttar Pradesh and surrounding areas. Due to the combination of these two systems, monsoon winds are pulling tremendous moisture in the entire state, due to which there is a serious threat of continuous heavy rains, lightning and waterlogging.

Record breaking rain from Sitapur to Gorakhpur, rivers in spate

If we look at the data of the last 24 hours, there has been heavy rainfall across the state. Bhatpurwaghat in Sitapur recorded the highest rainfall of 124.6 mm, which brought life to a standstill. Apart from this, it rained 101.8 mm in Badhalganj of Gorakhpur, 85.6 mm in Naimisharanya of Sitapur, 81.8 mm in Kannauj and 77 mm in Mirzapur tehsil.

Chhibramau, Kanpur Nagar (Ankanghat), Maharajganj (Nichlaul), Bansgaon of Gorakhpur and Jaunpur also recorded rainfall of more than 50 to 70 mm. Due to heavy rains at both Amausi and Central Observatory in the capital Lucknow, roads were flooded and traffic was seen crawling. There are also monsoon rains in Prayagraj, Barabanki, Balrampur, Chitrakoot, Azamgarh and Ghazipur.

Badra also rained in western UP, 89 mm rainfall in Moradabad

Along with eastern UP, monsoon activities are also intense in western and central Uttar Pradesh. Bilari in Moradabad received torrential rainfall of 89.2 mm. Considerable rainfall was also recorded in Tanda, Etawah, Jhansi, Sambhal (Chandausi), Jalaun (Konch) and Orai of Rampur. The Meteorological Department says that the movement of clouds will remain continuous in the western part and incidents of lightning along with thunder may increase.

Which districts will have to be most careful in the next 4 days?

According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, the situation in Eastern UP may worsen on August 16 and 17. There is also an alert of very heavy rain on 18th August and heavy rain on 19th August.

The administration has issued a high alert especially in Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Chitrakoot, Banda, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Sitapur and Lakhimpur Kheri. Apart from this, special precautions have also been asked to be taken in Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Jhansi, Lalitpur and Mahoba.

There is a possibility of lightning (thunderstorm) in Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura and Agra in the western belt. In fact, taking shelter in open fields, trees or under electric poles during severe thunderstorms can prove fatal.

Due to continuous rains, the water level of rivers and drains is increasing rapidly. The risk of waterlogging and collapse of kutcha houses has increased for families living in low-lying areas. While this rain will be a lifesaver for some crops for the farmers, it can also cause losses due to accumulation of excess water in the fields. The weather department and local administration have appealed to the general public to avoid traveling in bad weather unless absolutely necessary and to rely only on official weather bulletins rather than any rumours.
