To give a new direction to digital cooperation, India will host BRICS ICT Track, the event will be organized in Pune from 17 to 21 August.

New Delhi, August 15 (IANS). Under India's BRICS Chairmanship 2026, the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) is going to host a five-day BRICS Information and Communication Technology (ICT) track in Pune from 17 to 21 August. According to the Ministry of Communications, the objective of this program is to strengthen digital cooperation among BRICS countries and promote the development of a secure, inclusive and resilient digital ecosystem.

In an official statement issued on Saturday, the Communications Ministry said that the event, organized as part of a series of various meetings being held across the country under the BRICS platform, will be attended by communications ministers of the member countries, senior government officials and experts in the ICT sector. The BRICS group currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the statement from the Ministry of Communications, the event will consist of three major events aimed at further deepening cooperation in the areas of connectivity, cyber security, digital skill development and innovation. During the meetings, topics like developing ICT ecosystem for universal, affordable, sustainable and robust digital connectivity, creating secure and human-centric digital environments and digital skills and capacity building will be discussed.

Apart from this, measures to promote Artificial Intelligence (AI), next generation communication technologies, startups, entrepreneurship and innovation will also be discussed. India's endeavor is to enhance cooperation and identify shared opportunities in emerging digital technologies among BRICS countries.

Under the program, Digital BRICS Forum and Expo will also be organized on 20 August 2026. This platform will provide an opportunity to member countries to share their experiences on emerging digital technologies, innovations and strong ICT ecosystems.

The ministry said the ministers of the BRICS countries will discuss key topics such as sustainable and resilient ICT ecosystem, cyber security and reliable digital networks, digital skilling and capacity building, and promotion of startups and entrepreneurship. During India's chairmanship, this meeting is being considered an important step towards giving new impetus to digital cooperation and strengthening the technical partnership between the member countries.
